Even at the young age of 6 weeks, Mattis showed an intense interest in bones and specifically shed antlers. I began training him to find shed deer and elk antlers and by 12 weeks he was finding sheds on his own on a consistent basis. Now, it is one of his favorite activities. If any of Mattis's puppies show that same tendency toward antler hunting, we will train it to hunt sheds alongside Mattis until the basics are established. Antler hunting is fun and can be profitable. In 2018, newly shed (brown) elk antler sold for $12-$14 a pound, with deer sheds priced slightly lower.
